The U.S. government is discreetly building a legal case targeting Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez, which includes preparing a draft criminal indictment, Reuters reported on March 3.
U.S. federal prosecutors have compiled potential corruption and money laundering charges, and Rodriguez has been verbally informed that she could be prosecuted if she refuses to accede to the Trump administration's demands. The media report came two months after the military operation that captured then-Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Since then, Rodriguez has occasionally criticized Washington but has adopted a collaborative approach with the United States, agreeing to U.S. demands, including Washington's oversight of Venezuela's crude trade, the removal of Cuban security officials from the country and the release of political prisoners.
