Brig. Gen. Sardar Ebrahim Jabbari, a high-ranking official in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and an adviser to the IRGC's commander-in-chief, announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, semi-official Iranian outlet Tasnim News reported on March 2. Jabbari added that the IRGC navy and army would set any ships trying to pass on fire.

Thus far, most Iranian retaliation against the U.S. and Israeli strikes has centered on bases housing U.S. forces as well as prominent civilian infrastructure, such as hotels and residential areas used by foreigners, rather than targeting oil and gas infrastructure. Iran has struck at least four tankers, an oil tank terminal in Abu Dhabi and two QatarEnergy facilities in Qatar. The attack on Qatar prompted QatarEnergy to announce earlier in the day that it was halting all LNG production activities as a precautionary measure.
