Israel and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah will agree to a 60-day truce that will lead to a permanent cease-fire, multiple media outlets reported on Nov. 25. The Israeli far-right and mayors of northern Israeli communities slammed the report as not going far enough, but Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had approved the plans out of concern that the United States might take cease-fire measures to the United Nations instead.

Israel reportedly won U.S. backing for open-ended operations against Hezbollah to enforce the truce, while some reports suggested that Hezbollah believes it has the right to respond to Israeli violations. Israel and Hezbollah have been fighting an intense ground war since September when Israeli forces began a limited ground invasion of the border, although they have been fighting directly since the Israel-Hamas war began in October 2023.
