The United States plans to provide $1 billion in loan guarantees to Ukraine, according to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, AP reported Feb. 26. Kerry also said that Russia should respect Ukraine's sovereignty and that it would be a "grave mistake" for Moscow to undertake any kind of military intervention in Ukraine, Reuters reported. Since the collapse of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich's government, the United States has begun courting other countries in Russia's periphery.
