Hungarian state energy company Magyar Gaz Tranzit Zrt and Slovakian energy firm Eustream signed a deal May 23 to build a 115-kilometer natural gas link between the two countries by 2015 for 160 million euros ($204 million), Reuters reported. The pipeline will have an annual shipment capacity of five billion cubic meters. It will give Hungary access to Western European natural gas networks and will give Slovakia access to the north-south gas corridor. It will also allow Slovakia to benefit from planned pipelines to the south and a planned LNG terminal in Croatia. The European Union will contribute 30 million euros to the project.
