According to a STRATFOR source in Lebanon's Druze community, the Syrian government rebuffed Walid Jumblatt, the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, telling him there was no room for diplomacy. The source said Jumblatt was ordered by the Syrian government to vote, along with his seven-member parliamentary bloc, in favor of designating pro-Syrian candidate Omar Karami for the office of prime minister instead of caretaker Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri.
