Venezuela has signed a 30-year deal allowing a unit of Russia's Rosneft to develop two offshore natural gas fields, Rosneft said in a Dec. 17 report from Reuters. As Venezuela's socialist government under President Nicolas Maduro unravels, the country is turning more to Russia for the cash and credit it needs to survive . Rosneft, Russia's state oil firm, will have the right to sell production from the fields for export, Rosneft said. In August, the debt of Venezuela's state energy company, Petroleos de Venezuela , to Rosneft was an estimated $6 billion.
