Russia is considering a long-term deployment of Tu-160 "Blackjack" strategic bombers to Venezuela, Nezavisimaya Gazeta reported Dec. 11. The report comes after two Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons landed at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia outside Caracas on Dec. 10. U.S. officials subsequently criticized the Russian decision.
