The United States said some aspects of the U.N.-backed December 2023 agreement to a cease-fire process between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels cannot progress until the Houthis stop their maritime campaign against ships in the Red Sea, Bloomberg reported on June 6. Obstructed provisions include the disbursement of $1.5 billion of civil servant salaries by the Saudi government to Houthi-controlled territories.
