U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed by three months making a decision on whether to lift sanctions on Sudan, Sudan Tribune reported July 12. Former President Barack Obama set a July 12 deadline for a decision on lifiting sanctions, contingent on Sudan's progress in human rights and on eliminating armed conflict. Trump has extended this deadline to Oct. 12 amid a lack of consensus between the White House and State Department. Human rights groups praised the decision, while Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour said any decision other than the immediate and permanent lifting of sanctions was "illogical and unacceptable."
