In a call with U.S. President Joe Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is happy to discuss implementing the Minsk agreements if Russia implements a genuine ceasefire, and Biden expressed Washington’s desire to facilitate the implementation of the Minsk agreements, Axios reported Dec. 9.
Dec. 8-9 polling by the pollster Rating found that 54% of Ukrainians believe the Minsk agreements should be revised and new ones signed, 21% believe it is necessary to leave the negotiation process, and only 12% are convinced that Ukraine must fully comply with the Minsk agreements. On Dec. 7, Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to appoint envoys to continue regional security talks in Europe after Putin said on Dec. 1 that his country would seek "legal guarantees" as part of "concrete agreements" prohibiting any further eastward expansion of NATO.
