Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that his country had started exporting electricity to the European Union, starting with an initial export of 100 megawatts to Romania, Reuters reported July 1. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky praised the announcement, saying the exports could replace a significant amount of Russian gas used by European consumers and therefore increase European energy security.
