Tajikistan has approved the construction of a new Chinese-funded base in Vakhon, a remote village located near the country’s border with Afghanistan, RFE/FL reported Oct. 28. The new base will not house Chinese personnel, but Tajikistan separately offered Beijing full control of a military base in the Murghab border region that Chinese troops already operate out of in exchange for additional military aid.
