In Taipei, 20,000-80,000 protesters gathered outside Taiwan's Legislative Yuan to protest opposition parties' efforts to push through legislative reforms that would empower the legislature over the Executive Yuan and the Control Yuan, Focus Taiwan reported on May 24. The conservative Kuomintang, or KMT, and the centrist Taiwan People's Party, or TPP, are leading these efforts despite protests across six additional major cities in Taiwan, including Taichung, Changhua, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Taitung.
