Spain's lower house of parliament rejected Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's amnesty bill for Catalan separatists responsible for the 2017 illegal secession attempt, Reuters reported on Jan. 30. The rejection was due to differences between the ruling Socialist Party and the Catalan separatist party Junts, which demanded the scope of the amnesty be broadened to include all Catalan separatists, including those accused of terrorism-related crimes.
