The Islamist militant group al Shabaab set off several car bombs and attacked African Union troops at a base southwest of the capital of Mogadishu on April 1, the police, the military and the militants in Somalia said in a report from Reuters. The troops at the base in Bulo-Marer are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). Abdiasis Abu Musab, a militia spokesman, said 14 of the group's fighters and 59 troops were killed.
