Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that all mobilization activities would be completed within two weeks, ABC News reported Oct. 14. According to him, 222,000 people have now been mobilized, 33,000 of whom are already in their units and 16,000 of whom are performing combat missions. Why It Matters: Putin likely wants to suggest that the mobilization is bounded in order to discourage people from leaving, but this attempt may not be effective and could even lead Russia's right-wing faction to call for additional mobilizations. Regardless, Russia will need more than the 300,000 troops that will be drafted as part of the country's "partial mobilization" to turn the tide in the Russia-Ukraine war, so Moscow will likely continue mobilization going forward in various forms. It is unclear how Russia would brand this additional mobilization, but Putin would likely claim it was being done at the recommendation of the country's defense ministry.
