Russia's Foreign Ministry and Justice Ministry advised President Vladimir Putin to remove the Afghan Taliban from Russia's list of terrorist organizations, Meduza reported on May 27. Putin's special envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, noted that while the move was a precondition for recognizing the Taliban and that the group had "come a long way towards being recognized," there remain "a few hurdles to overcome" before Russia considers formally recognizing the group.
