Incumbent pro-European President Maia Sandu won Moldova's presidential runoff, winning 55.33% to pro-Russian candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo's 44.67%, BBC reported on Nov. 4. However, Stoianoglo's narrow majority in domestic votes led Moldova's largest opposition party, the Party of Socialists, which backed him, to dismiss the foreign vote results and label Maia Sandu's presidency as illegitimate.
