Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the creation of a constitutional commission to prepare amendments that would abolish the Senate, establish a unicameral Parliament and create a vice presidency, Tengrinews.kz reported on Jan. 20. The proposed constitutional changes — which must be approved via national referendum — would revise presidential succession rules, including a requirement for snap elections within two months if the presidency becomes vacant.
