At a congress of Kazakhstan's ruling Amanat (previously Nur Otan) party, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stepped down as chairman of the party as part of the political reforms and constitutional changes he says will allow for greater political diversity, RFE/RL reported April 26. The pro-government Adal (Honest) political party also announced that it will merge with Amanat, strengthening the party's supermajority.
