Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the government to develop the Trans-Caspian Corridor, improving port infrastructure on the Caspian Sea not only for general transit but also for oil export, Reuters reported July 7. Tokayev also ordered a study into building a pipeline across the Caspian Sea and said that diversifying the country's oil export routes was a "strategic task" for Kazakhstan's government.
