Supporters of Guatemala's President-elect Bernardo Arevalo launched protests on Sept. 18 and 19 alleging that the Attorney General's office is attempting a "coup d'etat," with protests blocking major highways throughout the country, Infobae reported on Sept. 19. The protests came amid criticism of Guatemala's Attorney General's office from Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Organization of American States and the U.S. government.
