The French government unveiled its budget plan for 2023, which foresees an increase in public spending by 6.6% compared with 2022, Les Echos reported Sept. 26. The budget also pledges to keep France's fiscal deficit at roughly 5% of gross domestic product over the short to medium term, before taking it back to the EU-mandated threshold of 3% by 2027. While some of the extra spending will be financed by issuing additional sovereign debt, the government will also delay previously promised tax cuts to preserve government revenue.
