The Indonesian Medical Association reported that 10 doctors have died from COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated with Chinese firm Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccine, Voice of America reported June 30. Meanwhile, countries including Bahrain, Chile, the United Arab Emirates and Uruguay are considering or already implementing plans to revaccinate citizens who have received Chinese vaccines as questions about their efficacy mount. The delta variant of COVID-19, which is sweeping through South and Southeast Asia — regions that have struggled to vaccinate their citizens — has brought more praise upon Western mRNA vaccines like those from Pfizer and AstraZeneca, which preliminary studies have shown to be effective against the variant, while China's claims of Sinovac's efficacy against the variant have yet to be verified.
