Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono has proposed greater defense cooperation between his country and the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during a meeting with his ASEAN counterparts, The Japan Times reported Nov. 17. Specifically, Tokyo is looking to hold joint exercises with ASEAN members, increase transfers of defense equipment and relevant technology, and provide training on maritime security and aviation.
