The Taliban has claimed responsibility for an attack near the residence of Afghanistan’s acting defense minister in Kabul that killed eight civilians and injured 20 more last night, The New York Times reported Aug. 4. A Taliban spokesman said the attack was in retaliation for the hundreds of militants who have died in recent weeks in clashes with Afghan forces across the country.
