What We're Tracking Honduras holds general elections. Hondurans will go to the polls on Nov. 30 to pick a new president, vice president, all 128 members of the unicameral National Congress and local mayors. Likely claims of irregularities will fuel political instability and protest risks. Current President Xiomara Castro of the left-wing Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) Party is not running for reelection because of constitutional term limits. Libre's candidate is her close ally Rixi Moncada. Salvador Nasralla, who served as Castro's vice president from 2022 to 2024, is running for the centrist Liberal Party while former Tegucigalpa Mayor Nasry Asfura is the right-wing candidate of the National Party. Honduras does not have a runoff system, so the candidate with the most votes will be elected president. The campaign has revolved mostly around inequality, insecurity, corruption and concerns over the legitimacy of the vote.
