What We're Tracking A meeting between Palestinian leaders in Algeria. Algeria has invited representatives from Hamas, Fatah and a dozen other Palestinian political factions to meet for talks in Algiers on Oct. 10. Palestinian media and political sources have cast doubt on the potential for the meeting to yield any breakthroughs between the feuding political groups — especially between Hamas (which controls the Gaza Strip) and Fatah (which controls the West Bank). But the meeting itself points to the continued importance of the Palestinian cause to regional countries like Algeria. It also aligns with Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune's push to bolster his country's regional status as a mediator, particularly between groups and governments without close Western connections. Another attempt by Lebanese lawmakers to pick a new president.
