The Greek Parliament approved a new round of austerity measures late on May 18, in a move the government hopes will unlock its next tranche of bailout funds . Eurozone finance ministers will meet May 22 to discuss the situation in Greece, and they may decide to authorize the release of around 7 billion euros ($7.8 billion) for the troubled Mediterranean country. Greece needs the funds before July, when substantial debt repayments come due. The austerity measures include a lowered threshold for income tax payments — an attempt to generate some 1.9 billion euros in additional revenue — and pension cuts that would save an estimated 2.3 billion euros over the next five years. Lawmakers also voted to sell state-owned stakes in the Port of Thessaloniki, Athens International Airport and Hellenic Petroleum, among other companies.
