The Indian government will expand domestic mining, overseas sourcing, recycling and development of alternative technologies to build its own critical minerals supply chains, but it will likely face time and scale constraints, keeping India reliant on imports in the coming years, potentially raising clean-energy costs and slowing its net-zero goals . On Oct. 9, Indian Mines Secretary Keshav Chandra told reporters that India's policy on critical mineral stockpiling is expected to be announced within a month. The policy aims to build strategic reserves of critical minerals to support the growth of key sectors, including defense, advanced electronics and aerospace. India has a diverse mineral resource base, with deposits of iron ore, bauxite, manganese ore, chromite, copper ore, lead and zinc, limestone, coal, and other industrial minerals that support major industries, including steel, aluminum, construction, power generation and manufacturing.
