Brazil will hold general elections on Oct. 4, with presidential and gubernatorial runoffs on Oct. 25 if no candidate secures over 50% of the vote. Brazilians will choose the president and vice president, 27 governors, all 513 members of the Chamber of Deputies, 54 of the 81 members of the Senate, and every state legislature. There are 12 presidential candidates, but polls have consistently shown a narrow race between leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro. Flavio Bolsonaro is the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022), who has been barred from running and is under house arrest for involvement in a 2022 coup plot.
