Disputes between the partners in Pakistan's ruling coalition are likely to cause further parliamentary disruptions, though they are more likely to end in compromise rather than a collapse of the government. In recent weeks, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has been escalating political pressure on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over alleged violations of their coalition agreement, including insufficient consultation on key government decisions and legislation. More recently, the PPP has also accused the PML-N of manipulating the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections to weaken the party, including through alleged interference by the federal government, Punjab government and AJK Election Commission. On Aug. 19, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the party would withhold support for PML-N legislation until its grievances were addressed. On Aug. 25, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman reiterated that parliamentary proceedings would remain stalled until the government resolved the party's outstanding issues.
