Large numbers of young people in North Africa are not inherently destabilizing, but weak job creation and deteriorating public services will deepen social polarization, and make young people an increasingly important driver of economic pressure, protest, violence and migration. In 2025, approximately 60 million people aged 10-24 lived across Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Libya, representing about 27% of their combined population, compared to about 19% in the United States, 18% in China, 15% in Italy and 14% in Germany. Nearly 67 million -- almost 30% -- were under 15.
